Daughter of Dorothy Drake and Lewis Hanford. Married Capt. Jedediah Washington Hartt in the 7th Presbyterian Church at the corner of Ridge and Allen Sts., NYC, by the Rev. Edwin R. Hatfield, DD. Lauretta was a librarian in the Sunday School which is how they became acquainted. They had three children: William Sydney Hartt, Julia A. Hartt McCoy, and Lillie Hartt.

A family report indicates that she took in a 5-year-old girl, Frances A. Dole, who later graduated from Hunter's College, and on 21 Feb 1881 married Rev. J.C.J. Adas at the American Legation in Brussels Belgium.

"Aunt Retta" professed to a family secret of having a Jewish ancestor, Judith Sollock, but would not discuss the details.

Her death certificate lists her name as "Loretta." She died at 951 St. Nicholas Ave, Manhattan, NY, from cardiac paresis along with senile cardiac degeneration.
