Dale Robert Michels, 65, of 364 Oakdale Drive, Brownsville, died Wednesday April 8, 1998 from complications of heart surgery at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee.

He was born Aug. 4, 1932, in Fond du Lc County, a son of Oscar and Ruth DeVoy Michels. On Oct. 26, 1957, he married Ruth L. Koenigs at St Matthew's Church in Campbellsport.

Mr. Michels was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira. He was a 1950 graduate of Lomira High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1952 to 1954. From 1954 to 1959 he was employed at United Pipe line, which later became Beloit Pipe and Dredge Co. in Beloit. In 1960, he began a lifelong career as owner and president of Michels Pipeline Construction, Inc.

Mr. Michels led the pipeline company to become one of the largest, most diverse utility contractors in the United States. He was widely recognized as a national leader in the utility construction industry having previously served as president and director of the Distribution Contractors Association.

He served as director of American Bank of Fond du Lac, Marian College, Raymond Foundation and previously, St. Agnes Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth L. Michels, four sons, Patrick and his wife Marysue of Brownsville, Timothy and his wife Barbara of Oconomowoc, Steven of Milwaukee and Kevin and his wife Connie of Brownsville, six grandchildren, Phillip, Michelle, Allison, Matthew, Elizabeth and Henry, three brothers and five sisters, Patricia Kehrmeyer and her husband Francis of Fond du Lac, Oscar Jr. and his wife Jean of Brownsville, Joan Flor of Menomonee Falls, Janet Fischer and her husband Rupert of Germantown, Janice Maultra of Hustisford, Francis and his wife Annette of Lomira, Sister Mary Jeanne, OSF of Middleton and Richard of Las Vegas, Nev.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar and Ruth Michels.
Services: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira. The Rev. Vincent B. Holubowicz will officiate. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Marian College, Hornung Student Center. A parish vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. at the center.
