Daughter of Niels Pederson and Christene Marie Nisdatter

Married Neils Hans Nelson, 10 Apr 1872, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah

History - Ane Cecelia Pedersen was born 25 Jan 1845 in Denmark. She came to America with her parents, Niels Pedersen (age 44) and Kirsten Marie Nissen (Age 40) in 1858 , and her brother Niels Peter Pedersen (age 7) and Marie Pedersen (age 1). They sailed on the ship "John Bright," then walked as pioneers to Utah in the Iver N. Iversen Company. Ane was 13 years of age.

The first winter in Utah they lived near Ogden. She walked to Salt Lake to seek work, walking from Ogden to Salt Lake. She worked for a Mr. Lund until April, but was mistreated and went to work for a family named Knud Kjelgard. She returned to her family in July. The family moved to Brigham City where she worked in the fields and did housework.

In the early spring her father was sent to Logan with four other men, to build the first irrigation canal in that valley. He took his daughter, Ane (Annie), who was 14 years old at that time. She prepared their meals over an open fire and she slept on the ground and did the washing. Finally a two room log cabin was finished and her mother came to Logan to live. She was sent out to work again. She became the third wife of Nels H. Nielsen (Nelson) when she was 14 years and 11 months old. She was married in 1860.

She worked in the fields and learned to raise flax and make it into linen, spin and cad wool and weave cloth.

Their first child was Nels Alma Nielsen, born November 11, 1864. They moved to Bear River City and a daughter, Louisa Cecelia was born September 13, 1867. Ingerborg Lenora was born June 5, 1870 and Nellie Christina was born April 11, 1874. She helped the sick and later moved back to Brigham City where she lived until she died.

She took a course in obstetrics, midwifery and nursing and received her diploma in 1884. She went to Salt Lake for the training and teaching. She recorded she brought 1700 babies into the world. She could set broken bones and make almost all of her own medicines.

She loved flowers and her garden was a Garden of Eden. She opened her home to immigrant girls, whose emigrating she had paid for. She died at the family home on June 15, 1924.
