New Holstein, Wis. - George C. Thede Sr. 77, passed away at his farm home a mile and a half north of this city on Highway 57 Sunday morning at 12:15 o'clock. He had been ill for the past six months.
Deceased was born on the Thede homestead in Town New Holstein, now owned by John Berchem, on September 17, 1864, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Juergen Thede. With the exception of several years spent in Milwaukee and Stockbridge he was a lifelong resident of this community and retained a lifelong affiliation with St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church of New Holstein.
On November 5, 1887, he was married to Miss Emma Sell of Town of New Holstein in a double wedding ceremony which also united in marriage his sister, Miss Louise Thede with Charles Sell. They made their home on the homestead for a year and then resided at Stockbridge for two years. They have resided at their present farm home since.
Survivors are his wife; a son Alex, of Colby; two daughters, Mrs. Albert Utschig of Appleton and Mrs. Paul Langenegger of Alma; six grandchildren, one great grandchild and a brother August of this city. Three sons and daughters preceded him in death; Harry and Hubert, three and five years of age; Elvira in 1917 at the age of 11 years; Mrs. Ernst {Roma} Funke in 1920, and Juergen in 1931.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church at 2 pm, the Rev. A.G. Schmid officiating, and burial will be made in the New Holstein City Cemetery. Friends may view the body at the Erbe-Hoffman Funeral Home beginning at 6 o'clock.
