Obit for Andrew Porter Devore found in Leola Gale Devore's Bible
Andrew Porter Devore died at, his home this Monday morning about 1 o'clock after a long illness from a complication of diseases. Mr. Devore was born April 29, 1851, in Hardin County, Ohio to Joshua and Caroline. In November 1870, he married to Miss Mary Bartlett, also of Hardin county, and they came to Adams County, Iowa soon after. To this union two daughters were born Mrs. Alice Livingston, who died at her home in Farragut last September, and Mrs. Nora Eblin, of Cumberland, who survives her parents. In November 1874, Mrs. Devore died and A. P. returned to his old home in Hardin County, Ohio, where he was later married to Miss Nancy M. Candler on November 26th 1879 and the family returned to Iowa in 1884. To this union four sons and two daughters were born, one of the sons having died in infancy. The surviving children are Ray Devore, of Rapid City, S.D. Clyde Devore, Lexington, Neb. Earl and Misses Pearl and Leola who make their home with their parents. Beside the children Mr. Devore is survived by his wife and a large number of friends. He had a large acquaintance not only in Corning but in the surrounding towns, having done a great deal of brick and cement work in various places. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, November 30th, conducted by Rev. O. W. Winters, pastor of the Christian church, and interment was in Walnut Grove cemetery. .
