ATTEMPTS SUICIDE

MASSENA MAN PUTS BULLET THROUGH TEMPLE - ILL HEALTH THE CAUSE

Massena, Ia., April 6 - Jake Devore, aged 50 years, attempted suicide by putting the barrel of a twenty-two calibre revolver to his temple and pulled the trigger. He is still alive, but the doctors are unable to locate the bullet. Ill health is the cause of his act.

Died at 11:30 This Morning - Funeral
At 2 O'clock Saturday Afternoon
At Victoria M. E. Church

Massena, Ia., April 7 (Special to the News.) - Jake Devore, who shot himself with suicidal intent Tuesday of this week and has since been between life and death, passed away at his home south of this city at 11:30 this morning. The funeral services will be at two o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Victoria M. E. church and the interment made there. Rev. Harwood will officiate.

The funeral of Jake DeVore was held Saturday afternoon at Victoria M. E. church Rev. Harwood officiating. There was a large attendance at the funeral. Interment took place at Victoria cemetery.

D. P. Hogan of Massena was in the city yesterday. Speaking of the death of Jake Devore who committed suicide Hogan said: "It was a plain case of the man being out of his mind. Jake Devore would never have done it under any other circumstances. He was a highly respected citizen and an honorable man. The doctors had advised his family that he was in danger because of occasional loss of mental power. This was due to long headaches which followed attacks of the grip. There is no doubt but that one of these attacks came upon the man and he killed himself without his better half understanding what he was doing.
