Rudy Dininni, a businessman and former state House member who served the midstate for nearly a quarter century, died at his Swatara Twp. home yesterday after a prolonged illness.

Dininni, 72, who was born and raised in Rutherford Heights, left his imprint on the transportation infrastructure of Dauphin County, the midstate banking community and the Christmases of many needy children.

Dininni also owned a catering business located behind his home.

The former farmer also had many business interests including banking. He was past president of Farmers Bank and Trust Co. of Hummelstown and was instrumental in bringing Community Banks, Inc. to the Rutherford Heights area.

He was former president of Dininni Construction Co., former owner of Derry Street Appliance Center and an owner of Dininni Foods, his catering company.

Dininni also was heavily involved in the community. He was a past president of the Reliance Hose Company No. 1; charter member and past president of the Rutherford Heights Lions Club; and a member of the Harrisburg Chapter of the Sons of Italy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Keiser Dininni.
