Minerva Baldwin
Minerva, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Baldwin, was born near Rome, Henry County, Iowa, on Jan. 18. 1851; and passed away at her home, near
Brooks, on Nov. 5, 1943 at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 19 days.
In 1857 she came with her parents to the site of their present home, near Brooks, making the trip In a covered wagon. She has lived continuously on this farm. She became a school teacher, teaching her home school, and in the old seminary at Brooks. In later life she remained in the home and cared for her parents.
For about eight years, Mrs. Ed Taylor has lived with her and tenderly cared for her. They became very close friends and she with the relatives deeply mourn her loss.
Three brothers, one sister, four half-sisters, and other relatives have preceded her in death. A brother Frank Baldwin, San Juan, California, survives, but was unable to come; also two nieces, Mrs. Francis Brown, Lewiston, California, and Frank Baldwin's daughter of California; three nephews, Wm. Crawford of California, Billy Tucker, Falls City, Nebraska, Frank Lawrence, Forsythe, Montana, and his son Prentice Lawrence of Corning, a grand nephew, the only relative here.
She attended the Brooks Methodist Church, was a good citizen, and helped everyone she could. She was devoted to her home and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. F. G. Barnes. Burial was in the cemetery nearby the home.
