Mary Byerly was born in Lancaster Co., PA to Johannes Andrew Byerly (born in Germany) and Beatrice Kuhl (born in Switzerland). Her father was a baker, Indian scout and military express rider who served with George Washington at Braddocks defeat. He was a hero of the Indian Battle at Bushy Run in Aug 1763. Mary Byerly was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster on 26 April 1852. Church records list her name as Maria Elisabetha Beirle.
She married Christian Fleeger in Lancaster and they had eight children; the first four born and baptized in Lancaster. The family moved to North Huntingdon Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA about 1788 where the rest of the children were born. About 1797/1798 the family moved to Centre Twp., Butler Co., PA, where Christian and Mary died.
