Zoltan Simon was born 18 Jan 1909 in Brooklyn, New York to Paul and Ella Simon.

He married Marion Brady on 22 February 1935, in Manhattan, New York, adopting her children from a previous marriage.

During WWII, Zoltan served with the 37th Engineers Battalion. He traveled from England to France on D-Day, landing on Omaha Beach on 6 Jan 1944 in the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Code-named Operation Neptune, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Zoltan was stranded on the beach for four days before being evacuated. The surgeon wanted to amputate his leg -- it had a hole the size of a fist in it -- but he fought to keep it, and won. He never fully recovered from his injuries.

Zoltan earned the Silver Star, a Presidential Unit Citation and the French Croix de Guerre.

He died on 2 May 1985 in the Bronx, New York at the age of 76 and was buried in Calverton, New York.
