Irene (or Zsofi) Simon was born on May 26, 1905, in Toledo, Ohio to Hungarian immigrants Paul Simon and Gabriella (Pataki) Simon.

She was one of thirteen children, and spent most of her early years in South Harlem, New York surrounded by her brothers and sisters.

Her family moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1919, and she married George Albert McLeod there in 1924. They had two children during their marriage, a boy and a girl.

Irene died on April 18, 2006, in Norwood, Massachusetts, just one month before her 101st birthday, and was buried in Roxbury, next to George.
