She graduated from Pilot Grove rural school southwest of California. In Versailles, on August 26, 1942, Gen was married to William B. Vogel who preceded her in death in 2003.
In 1939, she went to work for a few years at the California Pants Factory. In 1951, they moved to the farm where she ran the dairy farm. At the time of her death she was still a farmer with a herd of beef cattle. She loved the Flag Spring Church, where she was a lifelong member, and the surrounding community. Gen was an avid reader, gardener, cook and loved farm life. When they sold the dairy cattle, she devoted her time to helping in the care of her grandson, Billy.
Gen is survived by: one son, William Vogel (Sally); two daughters, Judith Bahr (Larry) and Elaine Cary (Paul); nine grandchildren, Kamie Bolin, Larry Dale Bahr Jr., Carl Bahr, Craig Bahr, Lori Bailey, Sara Holtsclaw, Lois Dunnaway, Hope Hoellering and Erin Butler; 17 great-grandchildren; one expected great-great grandchild; one sister-in-law, Denyse Vogel and a large extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by: eight brothers, Marvin, Cleve, Wesley, Othor, Elmer, Barry, Cecil and Truman Allee; one sister, Nadine Marks; one grandson, William Blake Vogel lll.
The family will receive friends at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service on Thursday, December 28, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at Flag Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Chapman officiating. Interment will be at Flag Spring Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Flag Spring Cemetery.
