She was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Watseka, Ill., to Louis and Mary (Frank) Freidinger. She married Wayne Newlin on Feb. 1, 1944, in Cissna Park, Ill. They were married for 58 years. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Norma (Philip) Geoffrion of Cokato, Minn., and Janet (Roger) Burgess of Wheaton, Ill.; one son, David (Becky) Newlin of Carol Stream, Ill.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou Conlin of Watseka, Ill.

Eva attended Illinois State University in Normal, where she received a provisional teaching certificate after three semesters of course work, due to the great need for teachers during World War II.

Her first teaching job was in Sandwich, Ill. In the years that followed, Eva taught in a variety of schools, sharing the education profession with her husband and other extended family members, including her two daughters and several grandchildren.

After 15 years of teaching, Eva completed her Bachelor of Science degree in education at Illinois State University. She taught almost three decades, on a variety of levels from kindergarten through junior high, and in many different places in Illinois including Watseka, Peoria, Springfield and Pekin.

Also very meaningful to Eva was teaching in a variety of women's Bible studies, both in Springfield and Peoria. The highlight for her was the opportunity to begin Community Bible Study in the Peoria area. Eva was the teaching director for the class from 1984 to 1989.

She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where she was an active worker in Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School and other ministries of the church.
