George was married first to Jane Snodgrass in Randolph Co., IL 21 Dec. 1833. Apparently there were no living children from this marriage.
George then married Sarah Brown, daughter of John and Martha Chapman Brown, in Perry Co., IL 13 July 1836.
George owned farmland south of Percy, Randolph Co., and also operated a general store in Steeleville.
George and his wife Sarah were among the founders of the Steeleville Baptist church in 1853, and he was one of its pastors while he continued to live in Randolph Co. This church was a "Friends of Humanity" Baptist church, indicating that it was officially anti-slavery.
In the early 1860s, George moved his family to Moultrie Co., where he purchased land and was again associated with the Baptist church as a minister.
He died there in 1869.
