Mamie M. Davis Lane was the eldest daughter of John Henry and Rebecca (Burnett) Davis who was born near Dixon and passed away suddenly at the Colonade Nursing Home in Granite City. She had attained the age of 96 years and had been married to Edward Lane, who preceded her in death. To this union were born two sons who survive; Edward Earl (his wife is Mable) and James Ralph (his wife is Estelle) all of Granite City. Also surviving are three grandchildren and one brother, Lester Davis of Springfield, Missouri, as well as, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two granddaughters, two sisters (Mima Goodman, Myra Wagoner)and four brothers (Everett, Manes, Ellis and Leo Davis). She was always a very busy, energetic person who worked all her adult life and will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held in the Mercer Funeral Home, July 30, 1998 with burial in St. John's Cemetery in Granite City, Illinois. Serving as escorts were her grandsons.
