Pearline was born on December 23, 1923 in Greenville, AL. At the age of 15, she was united in marriage to J.C. Tompkins on September 10, 1939. Soon after she and J.C. married, they relocated to Pensacola where they owned and operated the Tompkins Grocery on Massachusetts Ave. for 34 years. They were both admired and respected for their service to the community. Pearline attended the Brentwood Assembly of God and faithfully supported the church and many of its outreach ministries.
Pearline was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, J.C. Tompkins; her parents, William Henry and Hattie Lee Acreman; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Pearline is survived by 5 children: David (Pat) Tompkins of Pensacola, Andrew (Martha) Tompkins of Pace, Shirley (Donald) Knowles of Pensacola, Jimmy (Nancy) Tompkins of Pensacola, and Deborah (Kelvin) Harris of Raleigh, NC; 6 grandchildren, David Tompkins, Jr., Scott Tompkins, Rebekah Nolan, Jeremy Tompkins, Justin Knowles, and Thomas Harris; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Willie Mae Owens; brother, Joe William Acreman.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2004 at Brentwood Assembly of God with the Rev. Randall Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Donald Knowles, Steve Nolan, Justin Knowles, Jeremy Tompkins, David Tompkins, Jr. and Harold Knowles.
Honorary pallbearers will be the board and directors of Brentwood Assembly of God.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, 100 Beverly Parkway, is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel South from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 22.
