I must admit that I used to think that my sisters were strange when they would request a photograph of a tombstone or monument. I have since come to appreciate the value of these photographs and their role in genealogy. The FindAGrave website has been instrumental is solving some of my family research mysteries.
I was born and raised in Pensacola. I have been visiting and cleaning Clopton Cemetery my entire life. I have many family members, extended family, family friends, neighbors and classmates buried there. I clean and restore graves of those who no longer have living family and military veterans. I have placed granite headstones on unmarked graves. I have spent MANY hours researching and connecting the families of Clopton Cemetery. I genuinely appreciate the contributors who work with me on making corrections.
Elizabeth Chapel Church Cemetery is another cemetery that I have spent many hours mapping, cleaning, photographing and linking family members. It is a special place for me as I attended church with many who are buried there and will one day be interred there myself.
Again, I want to thank the contributors who work with me on this site. I appreciate you! This site is not about numbers or control. It is about accurate, SEARCHABLE information and memorializing those who have passed before us. Our ancestors deserve to be remembered.
It is my experience that information (even when carved in stone) can be incorrect. And not carving the date of death on a monument is more common the you would think. I research Ancestry, Newspapers and other websites to verify information. I do not add memorials without a date of death unless I can verify their passing.
Note: I post updated photos if the current photo is several years old. I do this not for credit, but to give those visiting the memorial an update on the condition of the grave/stone.
