He was born February 27, 1914, at Maple Landing, near Whiting, Iowa, to Jesse and Frances DeLashmutt Seward. On January 16, 1935, he was united in marriage to Lenora Foster at Elk Point, South Dakota. During World War II he served his country in the U. S. Army. He was a lifetime area resident and retired construction worker. He was a member of the Emery Johnson American Legion Post No. 481 at Whiting, Iowa.
Survivors include: his wife, Lenora; 3 sons, Gary, Sabine Pass, Texas, Bryan, Onawa, Iowa, and Jack, Marble Falls, Texas; his mother, Mrs. Frances Seward, Whiting; 3 brothers, Steven, Whiting, Frank, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Gerald, Blackfoot, Idaho; 3 sisters, Mrs. LeRoy (Essie) Cardwell, Suisun City, California; Mrs. Donald (Frances) Anthes, Blackfoot, Idaho; and Mrs. Marion (Gertrude) Gibler, Whiting; 10 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by parents (his father), 1 son, Danny John, 1 brother, Lynn, and 1 granddaughter, Christie.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 1983, at the Church of Christ, Whiting, with Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. Mrs. Carl Linden, the organist, accompanied Gilbert Smith who sang the selection, "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset".
Bearers were Stan Gibler, John Seward, Rodney Seward, Larry Stauffer, Lyle Harding and Doug Bonine.
Interment was in Harrison Cemetery at Whiting, with Military Rites by Emery Johnson American Legion Post No. 481 of Whiting, Jack Carlson, Commander. Arrangements were by the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting.
