George M.Sawyer,late editor of the Democrat,died at his home on the Boulevard at 12:30 o'clock, Sunday morning. He had been confined to his house for a month by that illness that is so fatal--Bright's disease. His sickness had been long and painful, but the end came quiet and peacefully. The funeral services will be held in Christ Episcopal church of which Mr.Sawyer was a member, at 2 o'clock today... George Maggerson Sawyer was nearly 47 years old, having been born in Gallatin,Tenn., on June 10,1848. His father was engaged in education and in course of time he moved to Bunker Hill, Ill., and again in 1868 to Missouri.....He was married on November 28,1872 to Virginia C.Stevens,of this city, who with four daughters and two sons survive him. All are single except one, Mrs. Kirk Baxter.

The funeral of George M. Sawyer occured from Christ Epsicopal church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. R.H. Morrill conducted the services in the church and the Knights of Honor were present to do honor to their departed brother. The interment was in Maple Park cemetery and a number of newspaper men of the city followed the remains of the late editor of the Democrat to his grave. The cortege was long, showing the high esteem in which the deceased was held by his fellow craftsmen and fellow men.

The editorial page of the Springfield Democrat was draped in mourning yesterday in memory of it's late editor,George M. Sawyer, whose death occured at 12:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Mr.Sawyer was well known and universally liked by the newspaper fraternity of the southwest.
