SPRINGFIELD MO NEWSPAPER – 08-1977
Mrs. Rebecca H. Mace, 89, formerly of 1022 East Walnut, died at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cherry Manor Health Center after a three-week illness. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Her father, George M. Sawyer, worked with the Springfield Democrat, and her grandfather, Prof. John A. Stephens, founded the first college in Springfield, a boys' academy on Mill Street. Her grandmother, Mrs. John A. Stephens, was Springfield's only woman postmaster.
Survivors include a son, Roger L., of 1619 East Walnut; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Tucker, 1262 East Portland, and Mrs. Mary McDonald, Hayward, Calif., and seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
German-Scharpf-Abbott will announce arrangements.

Graveside services for Mrs. Rebecca H. Mace, 89, formerly of 1022 East Walnut, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Hazelwood Cemetery with the Rev. George A. Wilson officiating. Burial will be under direction of Gorman-Scharpf-Abbott.
