Merle Leroy (Guy) Large, Kingston, Missouri, died of cancer on July 31, 2009, at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He was born Feb 6, 1944, in Lenape, Leavenworth County, Kansas, to Leo Harvel and Gladys Rae (Sedgwick) Large. He was raised in Leavenworth Co. and moved to De Soto where he attended De Soto High School.
He married Leota Rose Payton May 13, 1961, at the Presbyterian Church in Olathe, Ks. They divorced.
He is survived by his children, Martina Park of Overland Park, Alicia and her husband, T. J. McCleary, of Linwood, KS, and Justin Large of Lawrence, KS; and 4 grandchildren, Lindsey Park of Montrose, Colorado, David Park, of Overland Park, KS; Billy Briggs of Tonganoxie, KS; and Troy McCleary, Jr. of Linwood, KS. He also has a new great grand son, Hendricks Harper, son of Lindsey and Justin Harper.
He is also survived by a brother, Burl Large (Lucy) and a sister, Nadine Gash, both of Kentland, Indiana, and a brother, Francis Clements, Garnett, KS.
Two brothers preceded him in death, Charles Clements and Gary (Butch) Large.
He was married to 3 others during his lifetime: Jimett Gay Mayfield, Dalene P. "Sally" Williams,and Mary Jane unknown.
He retired from Burgh, Dunham & Associates Construction Company in Hamilton, Missouri, as a drywall supervisor. He was well known in Johnson County, KS, and other places, as one of the best drywall construction operators in the business, and traveled throughout the United States at his trade.
Burial would have been in the De Soto Cemetery, De Soto, KS, but his girlfriend refused to give the ashes to the family.
