Born at Rose Hill, MS to Alexander Lewis and wife, Amanda Fitzallen Ryan.

His paternal ancestors came from Virginia to Georgia in the early part of the 19th century. His maternal line was of Irish stock. His father was a confederate soldier and served four years under Joseph E. Johnston. His great-grandfather, Walden Lewis, fought in the Indian Wars.

Educated in Rose Hill schools, he followed the occupation of commercial traveler and farmer.

February 1, 1900 he married Minnie Lee Beason, daughter of Richard and Julia Beason of Meridian, in Meridian.

He served as State Representative from Jasper County, having been elected November 5, 1907.

Milton Lewis died at Hancock General Hospital just days short of his 100th birthday.

He was survived by his children, Amanda Fitzallen Lewis Searcy, Pauline Lewis Ginn, Virginia Lewis Glenn, Julia Lewis Cochran, Lou Helen Lewis Holcomb, Homer and Virgil Lewis.

His wife and son, Milton, Jr. preceded him in death.
