Elva Tilley

Mrs. Elva Sprinkle Tilley, 93, of 489 Dobson Farm Road, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Autumn Care Nursing Center.

Mrs. Tilley was born November 30, 1911, in Iredell County, and was the daughter of the late Archie Preston Sprinkle and Martha Lula Millsaps Sprinkle. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Snow Creek Chapter #354. She was a retired sitter and patient attendant and floral designer. On August 23, 1933, she married Amos Howard Tilley, who preceded her in death on May 10, 1986.

Elva is survived by two daughters, Helen M. Sprinkle and Janet McCoy, both of Statesville; two sisters, Anna Millsaps and Zina Shaver, both of Statesville; one brother, Lonnie Sprinkle of Greensboro; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a dear and devoted friend, J.C. Martin.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Tilley was preceded in death by her son, Arnold Howard Tilley; four brothers, Spencer Sprinkle, Herman Sprinkle, Hal Sprinkle, and Lincoln Sprinkle; and six sisters, Cordia Lloyd, Cleo Brotherton, Nell Henderson, Margaret Hemric, Lena Sprinkle and Ebbie Sprinkle.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Robinette, the Rev. Joey Campbell, and the Rev. Ronnie Millsaps officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild will serve as pallbearers and the remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of New Prospect Baptist Church with an Eastern Star Memorial Service conducted by the Snow Creek Chapter #354 during the visitation.
