CORDIA S. LOYD

Mrs. Cordia Emma Sprinkle Loyd, 93, of 1379 Friendship Road, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Maple Leaf Health Care following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1904, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Arch Preston Sprinkle and Martha Lula Millsaps Sprinkle. She was a homemaker, and former supervisor of the Iredell County Home.
A graduate of the Iredell County School System, Mrs. Loyd was a member of the Central Home Demonstration Club and the Snow Creek Eastern Star Chapter 354 of which she was a charter member. She was also a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the choir and taught Sunday school.
On April 3, 1926, in Davidson County, she married Rev. R. C. Loyd Sr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1971.
Survivors include six sons, R.C. Loyd Jr. and his wife, Sarah, John R. Loyd and his wife, Georgie, James N. Loyd and his wife, Faye, Archie K. Loyd and his wife, Patricia, all of Statesville, Max I. Loyd and his wife, Ailene, of Clemson, S.C., and Grady S. Loyd and his wife, Barbara, of Salisbury; five daughters, Iris L. Mayberry and her husband, Billy, of Union Grove, Laura L. Myers and her husband, Sam, of Winston-Salem, and Martha L. Kirkman and her husband, Charles, Cordia "Cookie" L. Wilson and her husband, Jim, and Patricia "Pat" L. Parks and her husband, Dave, all of Statesville; two brothers, Lonnie P. Sprinkle and Hal R. Sprinkle, both of Greensboro; four sisters, Elva S. Tilley, Zina S. Shaver, Cleo S. Brotherton, her twin sister, and Ann S. Millsaps, all of Statesville; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Loyd was preceded in death by a son, Thomas A. Loyd; her brothers; Herman and Spencer Sprinkle; and her sisters, Nell S. Henderson and Erbie Sprinkle. She was also preceded in death by a brother and sister who where twins, Lincoln and Lena Sprinkle.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at New Prospect Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Allie Walker and Rev. Ronnie Millsaps. Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family members will be at their respective homes, but will recieve friends at Nicholson Funeral Home this afternoon and evening from 5 until 9:30 p.m. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, grandsons-in-law and granddaughters-in-law.
Memorials may be made to the Snow Creek Eastern Star, or the general building fund of New Prospect Baptist Church, in care of Mr. R.C. Loyd Jr., 604 N. Bost St, Statesville, N.C. 28677. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Loyd.
