STEPHEN HAVILAH FENLEY
Stephen Havilah Fenley, only child of Lemuel and Inez Fenley, was born April 25, 1874, and passed from this life Aug. 4, 1961, at the age of 87 years.
He was born in Wayne county, Iowa and grew to manhood in the Confidence and Russell communities.
On Jan. 28, 1896, he was married to Gertrude Bettis, who preceeded him in death July 18, 1958.
To this marriage of 62 years were born nine children: James L. and Delbert E., of Bakersfield, California; Leo V., who died in an accident in 1938; Guy L., of Bannister, Mich.; Mrs. Gladys Dandurand, of Lead, S.D.; Stephen H. Jr., of Chariton; and Florence Dean, of Russell. Two babies died in infancy.
He is survived by six living children, 32 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Most of his married life had been spent in the Greenville neighborhood with the exception of a time in Missouri and South Dakota.
He had been in failing health the past two years and was cared for at the Bell Nursing home the last 10 months.
Funeral services were held at the Woodman Funeral Home and conducted by the Rev. A. E. Beals. Interment was in the Russell cemetery.
