There was also a woman named Serepta Lockland living with them. This may have been Darcas Lockard, James' mother, who can't be found anywhere else on the 1860 census.
In the 1870 census, James has moved on to Nelson, Buffalo County, WI and become a farmer. James is 32, "Lisa" is 27, "Sissy" is 11, "Willy" (later called Elmer)is 6, "Agnes" is 3 and there is an "unnamed" 3 month old female who is the only child born in Wisconsin. James' step brothers and step-sister and mother are also living in Nelson.
In 1880, still a farmer in Nelson, WI, James is 43, Elizabeth is 40, Elmer is 14, Amelia is 13, Esimia (the unnamed baby above) is 10, "Lassing" (William)is 7, Ervon is 4 and Eveline is 2. Louisa has married a Mathieu neighbor.
Twenty years later on the 1900 census, James has sold the farm in Nelson and moved away. He lives in Birchdale township, Todd County, MN and is a 62 year old day laborer born in May of 1838. Elizabeth is 59, born in May of 1841 and has had ten children, 6 of whom survive. James can read but not write. Elizabeth can read and write.They have been married 43 years.
By 1910, they live in Sedro Wooley, Skagit County, WA. James is a 71 year old laborer, married 52 years. Elizabeth is 69 years old and has had ten children, 5 of whom survive. (These would be Louisa, Elmer, Amelia, Ervon and Essie Mae; Evelyn has died.) All the children have moved to Sedro-Woolley except Louisa who lives in SD. An 8 year old grand-daughter, Leslie, lives with James and Elizabeth.
On March 28, 1913, Elizabeth who was 73 years, 11 months and 14 days old, died. Her death certificate says that her father was John Best of Pennsylvania and her mother was Elizabeth "Molique" (should read "Monticue") of Pennsylvania. Elizabeth died of Mitral insufficiency, senile gangrene possibly from a thrombosis contributed to by a leg amputation. She was buried March 30, 1913 in Sedro-Woolley.
