Youngest son of Paris and Dorcas Wilson Smith.

1863: Jake joined the Confederacy when the Civil War broke out; served as a Private until the end of the war, transferred to Company K, Bradford's Regiment, served 11 months.


24 Jun 1865: Infantry Private, volunteered, never detailed, Company mustered out.

1867: Company K, 8TH Texas Infantry, Col. A.M. Hobby, Capt. Wm. H. George.

4 Jul 1867: Marriage to Susan Virginia "Jennie" Smith,
Seguin, Guadalupe, Texas.
(Two of Jennie's brothers married two of Jake's sisters)

Sometime in the 1800s he began preaching the Gospel.

22 Apr 1883: Oordination, Floresville Baptist Church

"A big man with a handlebar mustache, gun on his hip and a Bible in his hand. Family tradition says that he would ride up to the Church on horseback, walk up to the pulpit, lay his gun down, then his Bible". 1892

14 Apr 1892: Marriage to Lavinia Olena Daniel.

Seven months after Jennie's death, Jake married Lavinia Olena Daniel. Six of Jake's children were still young and living at home, 1900.

1910: Residence, Luling, Caldwell, Texas

1914: Residence, Justice Precinct 4, Wilson, Texas

14 Oct 1918: Military; Confederate pensioner #29564--Application-Guadalupe County., Tx.
With application, Testimony-"Served in the same Company and Regiment with us. He made a faithful soldier". 1918

Continued preaching until ill health caused him to retire and move to Electra, Texas, near several of his children.
