(1) Nancy Ellen Moore Rogers (1851-1900),
(2) John F. Moore (1852-1918) and
(3) Adline Moore Panton (1853-?).
Mary's father, Silas Moore, died in 1854; her mother, Rebecca, worked as a "weaver" and in about 1861 married a second time to James M. Lewis (1817-1894,) a widower, and had 2 more children: Mary Jane's 1/2 siblings:
(1) Margaret Lewis (1862-?), and
(2) George Hopkins Lewis (1869-1934).
Mary Jane Moore married my gg-grandfather, William Milton RANKIN at the age of 18 on 17 August 1865 in Jasper, Marion Co., TN; Together they had 12 children:
(1) John Valentine Rankin (1870-1917);
(2) William J. Rankin (1872-1919);
(3) Anderson Loftin Rankin (1875-1829;
(4) Cora M. Rankin Hudson (1877-1944);
(5) Dora May Rankin Cantrell (1879-1938);
(6) Minnie Rankin (1879-?);
(7) Nettie Moore Rankin King Monell (1881-1954) - my g-grandmother;
(8) Valentine Rankin (1883-?);
(9) Henry Van Buren Rankin (1884-1951);
(10) Hugh Lankester Rankin (1886-1972);
(11) Pearl Rankin (1889-?); and
(12) Bonnie Mariah Rankin Morrow (1892-1953).
NOTE - In the 1900 census - Mary indicated that she had had 12 children and that 10 were living; Then, on June 6, 1908, when applying for an Indigent Widow's Pension with the STate of Tennessee for her husband's confederate service, she indicated again she had had 12 children - 7 Boys and 5 girls. Thus, either Mary was incorrect - or (i) I don't have a list of all 7 boys; and/or (ii) There were 13 children since Minnie Rankin is listed only on the 1900 census as having a "disability" and perhaps Mary just didn't want to acknowledge her.
Mary died at the age of 68 years on 1 September 1914 in Tennessee.
Would love to communicate with descendants of my family.
