Born on May 23, 1918 in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of Orlo and Margaret (Quigley) Barger.
Mr. Barger had been employed by Clearfield Wholesale Paper and Notion as a salesman for over forty years.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Clearfield Lodge #540 of the B.P.O.E. and was a member of the First Ward of the Clearfield Fire Department.
Mr. Barger had also served as a member of the board of directors for the Clearfield Housing Authority for several years and was an avid outdoorsman.
He served as a member of the 104th Calvary in Fort Indiantown Gap.
He is survived by a son: Robert I. Barger and his wife Jane of Lovettsville, VA; three grandchildren: Preston James Barger of Bristow, VA, Stephanie Barger of Round Hill, VA and Catherine Monsalve of Hamilton, VA; a great-granddaughter, Madison Monsalve; a sister Peggy Wilson of Hyde; two brothers Orlo "Bud" Barger of San Diego, CA and Gerald Barger of Lancaster, PA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Barger is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Catherine T. "Betty" Barger whom he married on April 23, 1941 and who died on Dec. 3, 2001.
Funeral services will be held on July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on July 14 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. by members of the the Clearfield B.P.O.E. #540.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 92, Clearfield, PA 16830.
