He was born on March 18, 1945, in Washington, Ill., to James Andrew and Lois Edna (Denny) Burleson. He married Mary Margaret Roedl on April 15, 1967, in East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James Burleson.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary Burleson of East Peoria; and their two sons, David Burleson and Eric (Shelby) Burleson, both of East Peoria. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Kiara Erinanne Beyer and David Hayden Burleson; one brother, Donald (Donna) Burleson of Peoria; two sisters, Linda Mead and Margaret Burleson, both of Pekin; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
David served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in South Korea during his time of service. After returning from service, David worked as an industrial fireman and in corporate security at Caterpillar Inc. for over 30 years, before retiring in 1998. He then worked as a security guard at Wal-Mart for nine years and at the Embassy Suites for just over a year.
He was a member of the UAW Local 974, the UPGWA, East Peoria Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the Oriental Band, the Pekin Amvets Local 235 and the East Peoria VFW, and he was a Den Master with Boy Scout Troop 229.
Dave was a member of the LDS Church, Morton Ward.
He was a loving and caring family man and enjoyed reading, grilling and spending time with family and friends.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the funeral home. The Rev. John Gray will officiate.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Washington.
