Elizabeth Scharbrich

Elizabeth Scharbrich was born May 23, 1843 in Prussia, Germany. She passed away July 9, 1918 in Moody, Bell County, Texas. She married Robert Haas around 1869 in Germany. In the 1900 U.S. F. Census states that they came to the United States in 1873. Robert states she had nine children, but only seven alive. The children are; "Mary" Maria 1871, Richard 1873, Fritz 1875, Anna "Annie" 1877, George Anton 1883, "Karl" Louis Carl Ludwig 1885 and Ferdinand 1887.

They entered the U.S. at Galveston headed for Austin County, Texas. They made their living farming, as far as we can tell that was their means of support. They made their home in Washington County until around 1900 and they moved south to Bartlett, Holland, Salado, Bell County area as the U.S.Census 1910 states. Later they moved to Moody, Texas where they lived until they died. They are both are buried in Buckhorn Cemetery, McLennan County, Texas, along with a number of their family members.

Note: From records of a Circuit Rider Preacher in his journal, church services were held in the Haas home after they moved to the Bartlett Salado Area. His records states the family joined the Bartlett Methodist Church but no other records have been found at this time. His records led us to search for the Bartlett, Texas German Methodist Church and the Salado, Texas German Methodist Church records. Those records are still missing and at this time we are still searching for them.
