JOHN D. SHEARER DIES AT JEFFERSON
Jefferson, January 14 – John D. Shearer, well-known resident of this community, died at 7:45 o’clock this evening at his home in the borough. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. He was 69 years old.
Mr. Shearer, a resident of the borough for nine years, was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a former member of the Codorus Township school board. For a number of years, he served as treasurer of the Jefferson Cemetery board of directors.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Joannah Shearer; four children, Mrs. Jacob Swartzbaugh, Mrs. Samuel Markle and Curvin E. Shearer, this place, and John H. Shearer, West York; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Francis Cornbower and Samuel H. Shearer, near here; Mrs. Sarah Miller, Saginaw, and Chester M. Shearer, York.
The funeral will be held Wednesday with brief services at the house at 1:30 p.m. and further services in the local United Brethren Church, of which he was a member. Rev. W. M. Beattie, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Jefferson Cemetery. Funeral Directors G. W. Geiple and Son, Glen Rock, have charge of arrangements.
