Born February 9, 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Swiss immigrants Frederick Wilhelm Baumann and Elise Jaeggi. He married Elsie Elizabeth Anderson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple September 21, 1938; she died October 11, 1993.
He was a graduate of West High School, and he worked at Western Arms and Sporting Goods. He obtained a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Utah. His first job was as a surveyor for the CCC in Southern Utah. He later worked at the Remington Arms Plant and the Clearfield Navy Base during and after WWII. Most of his professional life was spent as a structural designer for large buildings and bridges in Utah and surrounding states. Some major accomplishments are buildings on the University of Utah and Brigham Young University campuses, especially the Marriott Athletic Center. He was pleased with the many LDS Temples that he designed in many parts of the world. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, the highlight being a mission to Nauvoo, Illinois. Later in life he and his wife, Elsie, served as temple workers in the Salt lake and Jordan River Temples.
William is survived by his children, Richard William (Myrna) Baumann, Provo and Mary Lois (Emmett) Brown, Sandy; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman and hiker. Camping was an enjoyable pasttime even into his 80s. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would do anything for them.
