Mrs Horton, Olympia's Oldest Pioneer taken by Death at Age of 95 Olympia Dec 21 (1928)* — (Special)— In the same home in which she had lived continuously for 73 years on State street at the edge of Olympia's business district, Mrs Emma Horton Olympia's oldest pioneer both In years and length of residence, passed away last evening at the age of 95 years. Mrs Horton, formerly Emma Hartsack (sic), was born in Belmont county, Ohio February 4 1834. In her early girlhood she moved with her parents to Iowa In 1852 and In 1852, with her parents, she came west by ox-team with a caravan that suffered many deaths from Indian attacks and disease. After six months on the trail the party arrived at The Dalles Ore. She was married to William N Horton in Portland in 1853, and they came to to Olympia In the spring of 1855. Here they acquired the home site at State and West Bay avenue, where Mr. Horton, a skilled carpenter built the house which has been her home all these years. Mr Horton died In 1887.
