Mattie Keel
Mrs. Mattie SURFACE KEEL, 88, Fulton, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Woodlawn hospital, where she was admitted Sept. 9. She had been seriously ill for two weeks.
She had resided most of her life in the Fulton vicinity, also living in Rochester for 25 years. Born Sept. 19, 1879 in Newton, Ind., she was the daughter of Ervin and Isabelle GROSS BECKLEY. She moved to Fulton county from Henning, Ill.
On Jan. 8, 1902 she was married to George F. SURFACE, who died Oct. 18, 1925. On Sept. 19, 1936, she was married to Solomon KEEL, who died March 14, 1958. She was a member of the Fulton E.U.B. church and of the Ladies Aid of the church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Isabelle) McCROSKY, R.R. 1, Rochester, and Mrs. Voris (Edna Mary) ZARTMAN, R.R. 6, Rochester; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ray (Cleo) GLASS, Rochester; a step-son, Myron KEEL, Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Ethel) LaPAGE, West Richfield, O.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bess CUMMINGS, Rochester; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death were a daughter, Miss Ruth SURFACE, on May 21, 1916; a son, George Paul SURFACE, on June 18, 1915; a great-grandchild, Jan Marie ZARTMAN, on March 23, 1965; four brothers and a sister.
Last rites will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Ditmire-Zimmerman funeral home at Fulton with the Rev. ISGRIGG officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
