W. Solomon Keel
William Solomon KEEL, 82, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday in Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient since March 5 with a bronchitis ailment. Mr. Keel, who resided at 612 Madison street, had been in failing health the past 14 years, seriously ill for four years.
Born near Green Oak Nov. 25, 1875, he was the son of John Thomas and Sarah Ann COLLINS KEEL and had spent his life in the Rochester community. His first marriage was March 22, 1905, in Huntington to Rosetta FRANKLIN, who died in 1934. His second marriage was at LaPorte Sept. 19, 1936, to Mattie SURFACE, who survives. Mr. Keel retired from railroad service in 1941. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge here.
Surviving are the wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Chleo) GLASS, Rochester, and Mrs. Joseph (Leah) KUMLER, Columbus, O.; one son, Myron KEEL, Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Bess CUMMINGS, Rochester; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Clifford McCROSKEY and Mrs. Edna ZARTMAN, both of Fulton; four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. One son, Byron [KEEL], preceded him in death, as well as a sister, Estelle KEEL, and two brothers, Charles and Omer [KEEL].
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. C. A. UNDERWOOD officiating. The Rochester I.O.O.F. lodge also will assist in the rites. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 p.m. today.
