Samuel Bottorff was born on February 18, 1790, in Berks County, Pennsylvania. His father, John, was 35 and his mother, Sophia, was 36. He married Anna Schwartz on December 15, 1812, in Clark County, Indiana. They had eight children during their marriage. He died on July 16, 1868, in Clark County, Indiana, having lived a long life of 78 years, and was buried there.
