Marie (Klein) Hudman was born in Stepnoje (Stahl am Tarlyk) Russia, to Adam and Louise Klein. The family came to the United States in 1907, and settled in Fresno California. Marie and her first husband Ed Goodwin lived in Bakersfield where she owned and operated a beauty shop. They had one son, Eddie. Ed Sr. died while Eddie was a boy. Later on, Marie moved to San Jose and married Herbert Hudman. When Marie's health began to fail, Marie moved back to Fresno and lived across the street from her sister Elsa.
