Mr. Frank, who was a well-known merchant and church worker of Crestline, was born in Germany, August 30, 1832, and came to this country when fourteen years of age. He was married to Miss Emma Babst, a sister of Judge Daniel Babst, in Crestline, in 1859. After their marriage, they moved to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where Mr. Frank engaged in the grocery business, later entering the hardware business during the Civil War, he moved to Monroeville, Indiana, and engaged in the manufacturing business. For the past forty-seven years he has been one of the leading dry goods merchants of Crestline, and was highly respected, not only as a business man, but as a church worker, he having been superintendent of the English Lutheran Sunday-school for over forty years. At the last election he was honored by being elected superintendent during his life time. He was also a great church worker, being a member of the Lutheran church for many years.
The deceased was the father of six children, four of whom with his widow survive. They are D. A. and G. E. Frank, of this city; Mrs. G. A. Cellar, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and Paul Frank, of Crestline. He also leaves seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.
