Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Vinson were held at 10:00 o'clock Monday morning from the First Baptist Church. Her pastor, the Rev. T. R. McKibbens, officiated. Interment was in the city cemetery, with Roanoke Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were L. H. Huey, T. E. Landers, Reuben Awbrey, W. E. Chase, H. D. Myhand, and Leon Phillips. Mrs. Vinson, widow of the late Will Vinson, is survived by two grandchildren, William Vinson Wood and Johnnie Ann Wood, of Birmingham: one sister, Mrs. Emma J. Grady, of Stroud; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vinson, 76, had been a resident of Roanoke over 40 years and during that period of time had been a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Vinson had been active and cheerful until Saturday morning, when she became ill. Neighbors called in the family physician. She did not seem to be in danger, and retired that night in good spirits, it is reported. When neighbors who went to see about her Sunday morning about eight o'clock found the doors locked and got no response to their knocks and calls, they summoned a physician. After entering through a window, they found Mrs. Vinson dead. Apparently she had died a good while earlier.
