Mrs. Eva White Hornsby died about two o'clock this morning at the home on Wedowee Street. She was 72 years old and the wife of one of Roanoke's pioneer business men, J. C. Hornsby. Besides the husband, she is survived by five sons: F. M. and H. G., Roanoke; W. O. and O. G., Birmingham; G. J., Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Miss Ruth Hornsby, of Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. J. T. Carroll, of Roanoke.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Methodist church Thursday morning at 10 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. H. P. Williams, Rev. W. F. Price, Rev. T. E. Steely, and Rev. Belt White, with Quattlebaum directing. Burial will be in the Roanoke cemetery.
Mrs. Hornsby's life was characterized by devotion to her church and to her home. In her quiet way she served her church faithfully and attended its services as long as she was physically able to do so. In the home she was the faithful wife and mother, making it a place where husband and children were glad to find refuge from the cares, and worries of the outside world.
Now her sufferings are over. Those who have watched and waited by her bedside, who have tenderly and lovingly ministered to her, are left with sweet and fragrant memories of the wealth of love and service this good wife and mother gave to them, and with the assured hope of seeing her again some day.
