Sarah (Redding) Deniston was the daughter of Ezekiel Redding and Rebecca Mason, natives of Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Sarah was one of 11 children raised in Virginia and Ohio. Her parents moved to Preble County Ohio about 1810. .

Sarah married Thomas Deniston, the son of James Denniston, a native of Pennsylvania, and his wife, Sarah. Sarah Redding and Thomas Deniston were married January 6, 1825 in Preble County, Ohio. They were the parents of Alfred Lanier Deniston, Ezekiel Monroe Deniston, Rebecca Ann Deniston, Clarissa "Clara" (Deniston) Brown, Sarah Jane Deniston, Pauline Robinson Deniston and Charlotte Deniston, born and raised in Ohio and Michigan. Sarah and Thomas moved to Berrien County, Michigan about 1830 where Thomas was a master butcher and in the retail grocery businees in Niles, Michigan. Sarah died at the age of eighty years.
