James Wesley Duncan, First State President of the Republican Party of Texas, born December 18, 1867. Died December 31, 1933. Parents are Rev William Marshall Duncan and Sarah Jane Simmons. He married Marhta Jane Lewis in 1888. Married Ethel Arrington Land in 1912. In 1924 he was a Delegate for the Republican National Convention in Clevland Ohio. In 1932 He was also a Delegate for the Republican National Convention in Chicago Illinois.

Last Rights for Father of H. H. Duncan, Local Postmaster, Set for Tomorrow

Last Rights in tribute to J. W. Duncan, member of the state Republican executive committee whose death occurred suddenly at his Gastonia Home Sunday evening, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Presbyterian church in Kaufman. Interment will follow at the Kaufman cemetery.
Mr. Duncan, a resident of the Gastonia community and Kaufman County for 38 years was stricken with a heart attack as he and some friends played dominoes Sunday night. They had planned a New Year's watch Party. He appeared to have rallied from a first attack when a second came a few moments later ended his life.

Rev. Hubbard to Officiate.
The Rev. Edgar Hubbard of San Antonio, formerly of Kaufman County and the Gastonia community, will officiate at the service, assisted by the Rev. J. A. Phipps, Pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Kaufman the Rev Patrick D Moreland, Methodist Pastor, and the Rev. C. S. Cadwallader, pastor of First Baptist church.
The Odd Fellow's Lodge of which he had been a member for 35 years will have charge of the service at the grave. The decreased also was a member of the Woodman lodge.

Native of Tennessee.
Mr. Duncan was a native of Tennessee. He was born Dec. 18, 1868, at Tazewell, Tenn. He was married at Harlan, Kentucky, in 1886 to Miss Martha Jane Lewis and to this union eight children were born, six of whom survive as follow; Mrs. John E Lane, Dallas; Mrs. Pat Douthitt, Grand Prairie; Miss Mattie Duncan of Kaufman; H.H Duncan, Kaufman postmaster and past president of the Texas Postmaster association, Kaufman; Ed Duncan Kaufman; and Knox Duncan, Dallas. Oscar Duncan died in infancy and Robert Duncan succumbed in 1916.
Mrs. Martha Jane Lewis Duncan succumbed in 1911 and is interred at Kaufman Cemetery.

In 1913 Mr. Duncan married Mrs. Ethel Lane Gies who survives. Six children survive of this union; Alice; J. W. Sarah, Harriet, Ethel Lande and Frances. Three Sister and three brothers of the deceased also survive

Active G. O. P Worker
Mr. Duncan was county chairman of the Republican Party prior to his promotion membership of the state executive committee. He took an active part in the affairs of his active part, both state and nationally, attending many of the national conventions, including the last one. Much of the credit for securing the new post office and federal building in Athens is due to Duncan's trip to Washington during the Hoover Administration for that purpose.
Mr. Duncan came from Tennessee to Texas 41 Years ago. First to Arlington where he resided two years. From Arlington[Watson Community, Which Six flags now sets on] the family moved to Gastonia. He is a large land owner and is prominent thought this section of the state.
A member of the Presbyterian church, Mr. Duncan was well known for his services to his fellowmen.
Active pall bears tomorrow will be Frank Hubbard, W. Arthur Reid, W. R Evans, Ben B. Jones, Charlie Farmer, Ed Gross, N. W. deVlaming and Jim E. Yates. All friends and acquaintances of the family were named honorary pallbearers.
