"Sampson Cassady was born in Darke county, Virginia, September 15th, 1796. Removed with his parents to Indiana in 1819. The State of his adoption at this time was but three years old, and consequently a wilderness. In 1827 he married Cornelia Webb. The result of this union was seven children, five sons and two daughters, all of whom became heads of families, keeping up the line of respectability, honesty and industry, together with a degree of that frugality of which the honored father was largely possessed. In 1858 he became a member of the Church of Christ at Arlington. Subsequently he removed his membership to Rushville, where it remained until transferred to heaven. Though 91 years old, he retained his faculties to the close of his earthly career. He was a pensioner of the war of 1812, and knew not only the hardships of pioneer life, but the burdens, as well, of war. His is a beautiful history whose life stream meanders through the ages to forescore [sic] and ten. Such is really true of Grandfather Cassady. He left a record of which his children and grandchildren may well be proud. The writer knew him not until he had become an octogenarian, but even then there was a strength of body and mind that characterized the man as one of earth's noble men. His posterity will not likely allow his name for veracity and justice to be lost, since they are following well the footsteps of the honored sire and grandsire. His death was the result of a fall on March 25th, by which he sustained injuries which terminated fatally March 31st, 1888. No doubt but that part of the world in which he lived was made better by his having lived in it."
