Mary L. Adkins, 63, a longtime Cashmere resident died Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center. She was born July 29, 1921, at Cashmere and attended Cashmere schools, graduating in 1938. She married Ralph H. Glatfelter in 1939 at Wenatchee and they lived in Wenatchee and Ephrata until World War II when he entered the Marine Corps. Mr. Glatfelter was killed on Okinawa in 1945. She lived at Cashmere and worked as a beauty operator, owning three different businesses. She married Douglas G.Adkins at Cashmere and retired in 1978. She was a member of the Cashmere United Methodist Church, Cashmere Childrens Orthopedic Guild, Leavenworth Womens Golf Chib and Cashmere American Legion Auxiliary. Surivors include two sons, Ralph Edward Glatfelter, Logan, Utah, and Doug Adkins, Ellensburg; a duaghter, Sharon Carpenter, Plymouth, Mich.; two sisters, Vi Spears and Harriet Bitle, both of Cashmere; two brothers, Harold Horey, Sunnyside and John Horey, Wenatchee; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Cashmere Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Drew officiating.
Gale Slechta sang "Amazing Grace" and "Just As I Am". Earl Barnes was organist. Burial took place in the Cashmere Cemetery with the following pallbearers: Hank Parkins, Robert Duncan, Robert Duncan Jr., Todd Carpenter, Tom Spears and Doug Carpenter. Memorials are suggested to a favorite charity. The Braun Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
