John E. Horey, 80, of Wenatchee, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1918 in Leavenworth to Frank and Nettie (Sutton) Horey.

John was a lifelong resident of the Wenatchee Valley. John started logging with horses with his dad and was an independent logger until 1973 when he went to work for Pacifica Silica and Sand. He retired in 1981, but he never stopped working. He was a veteran of W.W. II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was active in American Legion Post 64 and 40 & 8 Voiture 90. He was a life-member of the DAV and VFW. His highest post was Grand Chec de Gare.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Gladys, Mary and Harriet and his brothers, Jim and Harold.

He is survived by his sister Viola (Beve) Spears, longtime companion Betty Life; children: Bill (Lois) Murphy, Nancy (Eric) Lundin, Sandra (Sam) Brown, Jacquie Steinbeck, grandchildren: Kelly Jorgensen, Brad (Maria) Horey, Jeremiah Carpenter, Christopher Carpenter, Korbie (Kent)Shepard, Anisa Murphy, Richard Haffke, and Joel (Elsa) Haffke, nine great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Family requests that memorial contributions be sent in his name to the 40 & 8 Nurses Scholarship Fund P.O. Box 638 Peshastin, WA 98847.
