Everett Abraham Smith was born 01 Mar 1918 in Abraham, Raleigh County, W.Va., a son of Emma Biars and husband George Washington Smith Jr. He was from a family of 16 children. His father George had nine children with first wife Emily Alice Vandall and seven with second wife Emma Catherine Biars.
He married Iva Violet McDaniel, daughter of Horace Greeley McDaniel and wife Bicy Ruhama "Hamie" Williams, in 1939 in Raleigh County, W.Va.
Mr. Smith, 85, formerly of Chelyan, Kanawha County, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on 05 Mar 2003 at Montgomery Elderly Care, Fayette County, W.Va., after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Iva, who died in 2000.
Mr. Smith was a member and former trustee of Chelyan United Methodist Church. He had also worked tirelessly after his retirement on the clean-up and upkeep of the Slaughter's Creek Cemetery in Chelyan. He was a retired foreman for Valley Camp Coal Co.
Everett is survived by four sons and two daughters, Boyd Neal Smith and wife, Gisele, of Clarksville, Tenn., Gary D. Smith and wife, Susie, of Belle, W.Va., Darrell G. Smith and wife, Linda, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Harold D. Smith and wife, Sheila, of Little Creek, W.Va., Brenda Kay Smith and husband, Claude, of Huntington, W.Va., and Patsy Smith Massey and husband, John, of Glasgow, W.Va. He was also survived by two sisters, Golda Smith Fox of Abraham and Eda Smith Ellison of Beckley, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Chelyan United Methodist Church with the Revs. Keith Forkey and John Massey officiating. Burial was in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, W.Va.
