Rev. Wendell H. Abel 85, departed this Earthly life on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

On Saturday, June 13, there will be a Celebration of Life and Service at the St. John A.M.E. Church, 1669 Columbia Avenue. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.

An African Methodist Episcopal Church pastor for over 43 years, he served the AME General Conference at churches in South Carolina and at Turner Chapel A.M.E. in Ft. Wayne and St. John and Bethel A.M.E. in Indianapolis. He was also a chaplain at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.

The widower of Mrs. Maurice Anna Abel, he is survived by his children, E. Trent Abel (Cassandra), Reginald K. Abel (Sandra), Wendolyn Abel and Allycin Abel-Branch (Loring); grandchildren, Clark and Taylor Abel and Blair Branch; sister, Marian Jones; brothers, Melvin and Herman Abel.

The family gratefully acknowledges all acts of kindness and asks that contributions be made to Allen University, 1530 Harden St., Columbia, SC 29204 or The Alzheimer's Association, Greater Indiana Chapter, 50 East 91st St., Suite #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
