DEDICATION SERVICE HELD FOR JOHN PLACE

Miss Ruth Bomer, regent of Marietta Chaper, DAR, conducted the service of the dedication of a headstone and flag marker for John Place, Revolutionary War Patriot, in Decatur Old Chapel Cemetery north of Little Hocking, OH. 24. Miss Bernice Graham explained that she had received a request two years ago to do some research in locating proof of where John Place had lived and was buried. Tax and deed records showed him living in Decatur township in the 1820's.

Several visits to cemeteries in the township by Miss Hilma True and Miss Graham, with suggestions from Mr. Russell Bonar and Mr. Paul Bain, clerk of trustees of the Little Hocking area, finally brought them to the oldest cemetery where the stones for John's son, Nathaniel Place, and his wife, Martha, as well as several other Places stand. Nathaniel had died in 1822 and John Place died on April 22, 1828.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Zimmerman, Harvel, Ill., accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Stanley Rosenberger, Woodlawn, Ill., a great, great grand-daughter of John Place, and John William Zimmerman, their son, came to attend these services. Mrs. Rosenberger gave the information about John Place during the program.
