Lucy Place married William Root 20 December 1821, in Decatur Twp., Washington Co. Ohio. Pioneer settlers of Decatur Twp., she and William had a large farm located near where the Root Covered Bridge is today. William and Lucy had a large family, and several of their sons farmed in Decatur Twp., also. Their children were William Rufus, Thomas, Sidney, John, Lyman, Thaddeus, Hannah Root Bennett, and Mary Alvina Merrel. The area near William's farm became known as "Roottown." Son Lyman, and for a time, son Sidney, owned a gristmill at the site. Lucy Place Root died Sept. 1849 in Washington Co.
